Drug & Alcohol Detox
For many people, detox is the first step in our treatment program to start recovery from addiction to alcohol or drugs.
Detoxification is the process of clearing alcohol or drugs from your body. For many people, detox is the first step in our treatment program to start recovery from addiction to alcohol or drugs. At the Hader Clinic Queensland, we’ll discuss your treatment options with you before you arrive.
Hader Clinic Queensland Private now accepts the majority of private health insurance funds for its Detox and Withdrawal Program.
If your private health insurance does not fully cover your stay, we can let you know your estimated out-of-pocket expenses.
Based on the outcome of your pre-admission assessment our clinical team will determine if a medical detox is required prior to admission. We are able to undertake detox within the Hader Clinic Queensland Private hospital located on-site.
Prior to admission clients will have seen their own GP to provide us with any relevant background information and prescribe any medications that may assist in the detox process.
On admission clients will see members of our clinical team for assessment and to address any immediate needs. Within the first few days of admission clients will see one of our GPs to look after their medical needs while in program.
Depending on your situation (including your personal history and drug use) the process usually takes between one to two weeks.
During this time, our professional Hader Clinic Queensland counsellors and therapists will be supporting you on your journey to recovery. It is common during detox that you will experience various side effects. This is your body adjusting to the lack of drugs or alcohol in your system and is perfectly normal. These side effects are commonly referred to as withdrawal symptoms.
These side effects may include:
- Cravings and irritation
- Sweating and faster heart rate
- Anxiety or mood swings
- Disrupted sleep or nightmares
- Headaches and other pains
- Nausea and vomiting
Detox Support
We will support you through the detox and help you understand what’s happening. As part of your treatment, you may be given medication to help you through the detox process.
It’s important to think about your long term recovery. The withdrawal period is often the hardest part of the recovery process and that is why we are there to support you at all times. The Hader Clinic Queensland’s trained counsellors will also talk to you about how to look after yourself so you can remain drug free and stay healthy.
