Therapeutic Community

The therapeutic community approach is a major component of our residential treatment program and the regular group sessions our clients are expected to attend.

At the Hader Clinic Queensland we understand that long-term addiction recovery is too big a challenge to face alone. Our Therapeutic Community program is designed to expand our clients’ support network and give them a sense of belonging in a secure, non-judgemental peer group.

The therapeutic community approach is a major component of our residential treatment program and the regular group sessions our clients are expected to attend.

The basic philosophy is simple: Aiding long-term recovery through peer support, social learning and mutual self-help.

While standard drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatments focus primarily on interrupting an addiction in order to help a client attain sobriety; therapeutic communities aim to sustain sobriety.

Becoming part of a recovery community is healing in many ways:

• Members of therapeutic communities understand that they are not alone in their ‘failings’.
• There is always someone to talk to, who has first-hand experience with similar struggles.
• Through mutual support, clients share responsibility and become invested in one another’s recovery process – which has proven a motivating factor in long-term recovery.
• Best of all, therapeutic communities extend far beyond the standard 90 rehabilitation treatment program.
• Life-long connections and friendships have been forged during community therapy.
• Being able to meet with, or even just phone, members of their recovery community can make the difference between relapsing and persevering through cravings.

While family support and good friends are a wonderful source of encouragement and support, there is something special about being able to engage with someone, who is on the same journey and understands the difficulties of recovery.

Therapeutic communities are only one of many components of our holistic rehabilitation program; however, it is one of the most powerful driving forces of sustained recovery.
